تُرىI wonder مِنfrom دُموعيmy tears قَبلَbefore تَرجِعُthey become مِنof دَمٍblood
سُقيتَyou were watered فَأَطلَعتَand you brought forth الأَقاحَdaisies شَريقاradiant
I wonder—with my tears, before they turned to blood,
Before my tears return as blood
were you watered, and brought forth radiant daisies?
You were watered, so you blossomed rosy
فَلَمّاand when جَرَحتَyou wounded القَلبَthe heart صارَتbecame مَدامِعيmy tears
دِماءًblood فَأَورَتso kindled وَجنَتَيكَyour two cheeks شَقيقاred anemones
And when you wounded the heart, my tears became
So when you wounded my heart, my tears
blood, setting your cheeks aglow with red anemones.
Became blood, so your cheeks became ruddy
أَظُنُّI think جُفونيmy eyelids عَرَّسَتheld a wedding إِذwhen نَظَرتَهُyou beheld him
فَأَخلِقso how fitting بِدَمعيfor my tears أَنthat يَكونَthey should be خَلوقاsaffron perfume
I think my eyelids held a wedding when you beheld him;
I reckon my eyelids made you a bride when they looked upon you
so how fitting for my tears to be saffron perfume!
So my tears were created to be devoted to you
بَداappeared فَوقَabove وَردِthe rose الخَدِّthe cheek مِسكَةُa speck of musk خالِهِhis mole
وَإِنand if زادَتِincreased الأَنفاسُthe breaths صارَit became فَتيقاa blended perfume
Above the rose of his cheek appeared the musk-speck of his mole;
Above the rose of your cheek appeared the beauty mark
and if the breaths increased, it became a blended perfume.
And if sighs increase, it will become languishing
