أَمطَرتُها قُبلاً وَأَصبَحَ خَدُّها ال
محمَرُّreddened مُخضَرُّgreen الجَوانِبِthe edges مُعشِباsprouting grass
محمَرُّ مُخضَرُّ الجَوانِبِ مُعشِبا
I showered her with kisses, and her cheek—the
reddened one—became green at the edges, sprouting grass.
وَاللَهِby God لاnot أَضمَرتُI harbored شَعرَةَa hair سَلوَةٍforgetfulness of love
وَاللَهِ لا أَضمَرتُ شَعرَةَ سَلوَةٍ
ماas long as دامَremains ليfor me قَمَرٌa moon يَحُلُّdwells in العَقرَباScorpio (the Scorpion)
ما دامَ لي قَمَرٌ يَحُلُّ العَقرَبا
By God, I shall not harbor a hair's breadth of forgetfulness,
As long as I have a moon that dwells in Scorpio.
