سَأَسكُتُI shall keep silent عَنfrom شُكريmy thanking نَداهُhis bounty لِعِلَّةٍfor a reason
يَقومُcomes forward لَهاfor it ذَنبيmy fault بِأَحسَنِwith the best عُذرِهof its excuses
I shall refrain from thanking his bounty for a reason
For which my fault offers its best excuse:
إِذاif أَناI بَعدَafter الجُهدِthe effort قَصَّرتُfall short شاكِراًwhile giving thanks
فَقَدthen indeed صارَhas become لِلتَقصيرِthrough falling short ذَنبيmy fault كَشُكرِهlike thanking him
If, after striving, I fall short in giving thanks,
Then my fault in falling short has become like thanking him.
