He marshaled my sins against me the day he reproached me,

So much so that he reminded me of my day of reckoning.

Welcome this reproach, for it brings me glad tidings

That my loved ones count me among the beloved.

And when I weep, they say, “He has forged tears,

And the false show of his lying tears deceives.”

And separation is a scorching noon whose mirage is poured forth

By my eyelid—and so proves true, unlike every other mirage.
