He appeared, with brocade upon his cheeks,
His cheek possesses a brocade
Which the hair embroidered with ivy.
Embroidered by poetry with threads of dew

وَصُدغُهُ الزُرفِينُ لِلبابِ
The door to my solace is shut before him,
The door to his mouth is shut
And his temple-lock is the ring upon that door.
And his perfumed cheek guards the door
ياO مانِعيyou who deny me حَتّىeven مَواعيدَهُhis promises
يا مانِعي حَتّى مَواعيدَهُ
مَنwho ليfor me بِوَعدٍwith a promise مِنكَfrom you كَذّابِfalse
مَن لي بِوَعدٍ مِنكَ كَذّابِ
O you who deny me even your promises,
O you who prevent even his trysts
Who will bring me a promise from you—even a false one?
Who can I trust with your lying promises?
