خَواطِرُ مِن وُدِّ الصَديقِ حَديثَةٌ

خَواطِرُ مِن وُدِّ الصَديقِ حَديثَةٌ

وَلَم تَرَهاشَكوايَ أَهلَ اِنتِجاعِها

وَلَم تَرَهاشَكوايَ أَهلَ اِنتِجاعِها

Fresh thoughts of a friend's affection,

Thoughts of a dear friend's affection are new

yet my complaint did not deem them worthy of its appeal for aid.

And none who seek their cure have seen them

أَآمُلُ نُصحاً مِنهُمُ في اِنفِراجِها

أَآمُلُ نُصحاً مِنهُمُ في اِنفِراجِها

وَلَم أَرَ نُصحاً مِنهُمُ في اِستِماعِها

وَلَم أَرَ نُصحاً مِنهُمُ في اِستِماعِها

Can I hope for sincere concern from them in relieving it,

I hope for their sage advice to relieve them

when I have seen no sincere concern from them in listening to it?

But from them, no advice to soothe them have I seen
