لَئِنeven if نالَتِattained الأَملاكُkings مُلكاًdominion بِحَظِّهاthrough their fortune
فَقَدthen indeed نِلتُمُyou attained ماwhat نِلتُمُyou attained بِمَساعِthrough efforts
Even if kings have gained dominion through their fortune,
Though angels gain a kingdom by their fortune,
you have indeed gained what you have through your efforts.
You've gained what you have gained by your endeavour.
وَهَذاand this عِيانُdirect sight المَجدِof glory فيكُمin you فَماso what الَّذيthat which
يَزيدُكُمُadds to you مُدّاحُكُمyour praisers بِسَماعِthrough hearing
And here is glory plainly seen in you—what, then,
This glory manifest in you - so what can
can your praisers add to your glory through what is heard?
A praising eulogist add by his hearing?
دَفَعتَyou warded off الأَذىharm عَنّاfrom us وَمَتَّعتَand you gave enjoyment بِالمُنىwith wishes
وَماand not كانَتِwas الدُنياthe world لَناfor us بِمَتاعِany enjoyment
You warded harm away from us and let us enjoy what we wished for,
You've kept all harm from us and brought us joy;
and the world had been no delight to us.
For us the world was never a true treasure.
وَوَاللَهِand by God ماnot كُلِّفتُI was burdened فيin المَدحِpraise كُلفَةًany strain
وَهَلand is هُوَit إِلّاanything but الصِدقُtruth وَهوَand it is طِباعيmy nature
And by God, I was put to no strain in offering praise;
By God, I've never been assigned this praise
and is it anything but truth? Truth is my nature.
As duty - Truth alone's my very nature.
