Do not think me neglectful of pledges.

Cherishing your love is my creed, one that never fades.

I shunned letter-writing, hoping we might meet,

but time refused to grant me what I seek.

And my letters were delayed, so I asked: are you reproaching

me for that, or feeling aggrieved?

I fear no reproach for breaking off correspondence with you.

And listen: my excuse leaves no room for reproach.

As long as I find you pictured in my heart,

forever whispering to me—to whom should I write?
