وَتَعجِزُ عَن أَن تُخرِجَ الحُبَّ مِن قَلبي
And you can keep speech from leaving my mouth,
You may prevent my words from leaving my mouth,
Yet you cannot remove love from my heart.
And fail to remove love from my heart.

And why do you reject the complaint, when its sufferer's case
Why deny my plaint when it pleads for a cure?
Is in your hands? So do not withhold treatment—far be it from you!
Do not be stingy with medicine, I implore!
جَرىflowed الدَمُthe blood دَمعاًas tears فيin حُروبِwars بَنيsons of الهَوىpassion
جَرى الدَمُ دَمعاً في حُروبِ بَني الهَوى
وَيَكفيand suffices الدَمُthe blood الجاريflowing دَليلاًas proof عَلىof الحُبِّlove
وَيَكفي الدَمُ الجاري دَليلاً عَلى الحُبِّ
Blood flowed as tears in the wars of the sons of passion,
In love's wars, blood flows as tears.
And the flowing blood suffices as proof of love.
My flowing blood proves my love, nothing more.
