وَيَأمُرُنيand he commands me مَنone whom لاnot أُطيقُI can bear بِهَجرِهاto forsake her
وَيَأمُرُني مَن لا أُطيقُ بِهَجرِها

وَحَسبي بِهِ لَو كانَ يَنظُرُها حَسبي
And one I cannot bear commands me to forsake her.
He who I cannot bear to be estranged from me commands me,
And he would be enough for me, if he looked upon her—enough for me.
And it would suffice me if he but looked upon her, it would suffice me,

He counsels my body to part with its heart.
He intimates to my body the separation of his heart.
May you remain thus! Was there ever a body without a heart?
Yet I have remained thus - can a body exist without a heart?
وَإِنّيand indeed I عَلىtoward الأَيّامِthe days فيهاon her account لَعاتِبٌsurely reproachful

وَحاشا لِذاكَ الوَجهِ مِن أَلَمِ العَتبِ
And I do reproach the days on her account,
And yet I reproach the days I spend in this state -
And may that face be spared the pain of reproach.
Far be it from that face to feel the pain of rebuke!
