And modesty floats in the drink and sinks [wording unclear].

And her smile, like acacia blossom, is white, cool, and sweet.

A scorpion from her had stung the very core of my heart.

And I kissed her smiling mouth, whose crumbs

Are sweeter and more delectable than delicious honey.

At times; at others, through him the earth grows fertile.

Like a lion, he guards his cub at times, and in

A limb of his quarry he embeds his claws.

Like a torrent, he makes places in the land flourish,

And overflows through the wilderness, its waters offered as drink and drunk.

Like a torrent, he makes places in the land flourish,

At times, while in some places he lays waste.

And people fear him when he surges.

You assailed it with quivering spears and severing swords,

Whose flat sides are dyed with horsemen's blood.

And you inscribed writing upon the face of the sky,

Whose heading even one who cannot write can read.

That one dots it, and this one gives it inflections.

So praise to the All-Merciful: neither is the pool of hope

Turbid, nor the lightning of wishes a rainless flash.
