وقرقعةُand the rattling اللجامthe bridle برأسon the head of حمراa red mare
أحبّdearer إليّto me ممّاthan what تغمزينيyou pinch me
And the bridle's rattle on a red mare's head
The clanking of the horse's bit on his head
Is dearer to me than your pinching me.
Is dearer to me than your rebukes

I fear that, if I take to my bed
I fear that if I fall on my sickbed
And my illness lingers, you will not keep me company.
And my sickness lasts long, you won't accompany me
أخافI fear إذاif وقعناwe fall فيinto مضيقstraits

I fear that, if we find ourselves in straits
I fear that if we fall into hardship
And fate wrongs me, you will not come to my aid.
And time treats me harshly, you won't help me

I fear that, if I lose the wealth I possess,
I fear that if I lose my wealth
You will turn to quarrelling and forsake me.
You'll incline to quarrel and abandon me
