أَتانيreached me أَنَّthat هِندَاًHind أُختَsister of صَخرٍSakhr
دَعَتshe cried دَركاًvengeance وَبَشَّرَتِand she gave glad tidings to الهُنوداthe Hinds (women named Hind)
Word reached me that Hind, the sister of Sakhr,
A sister of Sakhra came and told me
News reached me that Hind, the sister of Sakhr,
Cried 'Vengeance!' and gave the Hinds glad tidings.
That the Indians had called up their army and brought glad tidings,
Called out for vengeance and brought glad tidings to her kin,
فَإِنso if تَفخَرshe boasts بِحَمزَةَover Hamza حينَwhen وَلّىhe departed
مَعَwith الشُهَداءِthe martyrs مُحتَسِباًseeking God's reward شَهيداًas a martyr
So if she boasts over Hamza when he departed
If you are proud of Hamza when he retreated,
So if she boasts of Hamza when he passed away,
With the martyrs, seeking God's reward, a martyr,
To join the martyrs, seeking martyrdom,
Among the martyrs, seeking God's reward, a martyr true,
فَإِنَّاthen indeed we قَدindeed قَتَلناwe killed يَومَon the day of بَدرٍBadr
أَباAbu (father of) جَهلٍJahl وَعُتبَةَand Utbah وَالوَليداand al-Walid
Then we did indeed kill on the day of Badr
Then we, on the day of Badr, had killed
Then surely we, upon the Day of Badr, slew
Abu Jahl, Utbah, and al-Walid.
Abu Jahl, Utbah and al-Walid,
Abu Jahl, and Utbah, and Al-Walid,
وَقَتَّلناand we slaughtered سُراةَchiefs of الناسِthe people طُرّاًall of them
وَغُنِّمناand we were granted as spoils الوَلائِدَthe slave girls وَالعَبيداand the male slaves
And we slaughtered the people's chiefs, every one,
And we killed the best knights of mankind,
And we slaughtered the noblest chiefs, one and all,
And received the slave girls and male slaves as spoils.
And seized their women and slaves,
And gained the captive maidens and slaves as spoils,
وَشَيبَةَand Shaybah قَدindeed قَتَلناwe killed يَومَon the day ذاكُمthat (addressing you all)
عَلىupon أَثَوابِهِhis garments عَلَقاًclotted blood جَسيداdried
And Shaybah we indeed killed on that day,
And we killed Shaybah on that day of yours,
And Shaybah, too, we killed on that day of yours,
With dried, clotted blood upon his garments.
Hanging from his clothes, slain,
With clotted gore caked thick upon his clothes,
فَبُوِّأَso he was lodged مِنof جَهَنَّمَHell شَرَّthe worst دارٍabode
عَلَيهاupon it لَمdid not يَجِدhe finds عَنهاaway from it مُحيداa way of escape
So he was lodged in the worst abode of Hell;
So he was destined for the worst abode in Hell,
So he was lodged in Hell, the vilest home,
There he found no escape from it.
In it he found no refuge,
From which he found no refuge nor escape.

And not alike are one who is in Hellfire,
It is not equal, one who is in Hellfire,
And two are not alike: the one within the Fire,
Whose drink there is pus,
Drinking there boiling water,
Whose draught therein is festering, boiling pus,

And one who is in the Gardens, where there flows
And one who is in Paradise, living there happily,
And he who dwells in Gardens, where blessings flow
Sustenance upon him, while he is joyful and worthy of praise.
With sustenance pouring upon him, pleased and praiseworthy.
Upon him, blissful in his state and praised.
