أَشدُد حيازَيمكَ لِلمَو

أَشدُد حيازَيمكَ لِلمَو

تِ فَإِنَّ المَوتَ لاقيكا

تِ فَإِنَّ المَوتَ لاقيكا

Tighten your girdles for death,

Grasp your weapons against death

Gird your loins for death,

for death will meet you.

For death will find you

For death will surely meet you.

وَلا تَجزع مِنَ المَوتِ

وَلا تَجزع مِنَ المَوتِ

إِذا حَلَّ بِواديكا

إِذا حَلَّ بِواديكا

And do not be dismayed by death

Do not despair of death

And do not panic over death,

when it alights in your valley.

When it comes to your valley

When it settles in your valley.

فَإِنَّ الدِرعَ وَالبيَض

فَإِنَّ الدِرعَ وَالبيَض

ةَ يَومَ الرَوعِ يَكفيكا

ةَ يَومَ الرَوعِ يَكفيكا

For the armor and helmet

For armor and whiteness (purity)

For the armor and the helmet,

will suffice you on the day of terror.

On the day of turmoil will suffice you

On the day of terror, will suffice you.

كَما أَضحكَ الدَهرُ

كَما أَضحكَ الدَهرُ

كَذاكَ الدَهرُ يُبكيكا

كَذاكَ الدَهرُ يُبكيكا

Just as time made you laugh,

Just as time made you laugh

Just as Time has made you laugh,

so too does time make you weep.

So too will time make you weep

So too shall Time make you weep.

فَقَد أَعرِفُ أَقواماً

فَقَد أَعرِفُ أَقواماً

وَإِن كانوا صَعاليكا

وَإِن كانوا صَعاليكا

For I do know people,

For I know people

For I have known such men,

even though they were paupers:

Even if they are mighty

Even if they were outcasts,

مَساريعٌ إِلى النَجدَ

مَساريعٌ إِلى النَجدَ

ةِ لِلغَيِّ مَتاريكا

ةِ لِلغَيِّ مَتاريكا

swift to come to aid,

Quick to help in times

Swift to answer the call of aid,

ever forsaking wrongdoing.

Of peril and adversity

And abandoners of all error.
