ياO مُؤثِرَone who prefers الدُنياthis world عَلىover دينِهِhis faith
وَالتائِهَand the wanderer الحَيرانَbewildered عَنaway from قَصدِهِhis purpose
O you who prefer this world to your faith,
O you who prefer the world over your religion,
O you who choose this world over your faith,
And wander bewildered, astray from your purpose,
And who wanders lost, far from your purpose,
And wander, bewildered, far from your true path,
أَصبَحتَyou have become تَرجوyou hope for الخُلدَimmortality فيهاin it وَقَدand already
أَبرَزَhas bared نابَthe fang المَوتِdeath عَنbeyond حَدِّهِits bounds
You now hope for immortality in it, while already
You have come to hope for immortality in it, yet
You have come to hope for eternity here, even as
Death’s fang has been bared beyond its bounds.
Death has bared its fangs beyond restraint,
Death has bared the sharpness of its fangs.
هَيهاتَfar from it!
مِنwhoever يَرمِهِit shoots him يَوماًone day بِهاwith them يُردِهِit kills him
Far from it! Death indeed has arrows;
Alas! Death has arrows
Alas! For Death is armed with arrows;
Whomever it shoots with them one day, it kills.
That will strike down whomsoever it hits one day,
Whomever it strikes one day, it brings to ruin.

No preacher can mend the heart of a person
No preacher can redeem the heart of one
No preacher can mend the heart of a man
Whose guidance God has not willed.
Whom God has not willed to guide aright.
If God has not decreed his guidance.
