I preceded you to Islam impetuously
I preceded you all to Islam, without exception,
As a boy, before I had reached the age of puberty.
A boy who had not reached the age of discretion
While yet a boy, before reaching the age of maturity.

I am the hero whom you will not deny
I am the hero whom you cannot deny,
For a day of battle and for a day of peace.
On the day of Kerbala and the day of peace
Ready for the day of adversity and the day of peace.

رَسولُ اللَهِ يَومَ غَديرِ خَمِّ
And he ordained for me his authority over you—
And the Messenger of Allah made it obligatory on you
And he mandated my authority over you,
The Messenger of God, on the day of Ghadir Khumm.
My authority on the day of Ghadir Khumm
The Messenger of Allah, on the Day of Ghadir Khumm.

And the Prophet charged me, by choice,
And the Prophet entrusted me with the choice
And the Prophet entrusted me, by his own selection,
With allegiance to him on the morrow’s morning, through kinship.
With his oath the morning after tomorrow at Rahmah
With his covenant for the morrow, a bond of mercy.

So is there anyone among you with standing like mine?
Is there anyone among you with a foot like my foot?
So is there anyone among you with standing like my standing?
فَوَيلٌso woe ثُمَّthen وَيلٌwoe ثُمَّthen وَيلٌwoe
فَوَيلٌ ثُمَّ وَيلٌ ثُمَّ وَيلٌ
لِجاحِدِto one who denies طاعَتيobedience to me مِنfrom غَيرِabsence of جُرمِwrongdoing
لِجاحِدِ طاعَتي مِن غَيرِ جُرمِ
So woe, then woe, then woe,
So woe, then woe, then woe
Therefore woe, and again woe, and yet again woe,
To whoever refuses me obedience, though I have done no wrong.
To the denier of my authority without crime
To the one who denies my authority without just cause.
