فَرضٌ عَلى الناسِ أَن يَتوبوا

فَرضٌ عَلى الناسِ أَن يَتوبوا

لَكِنَّ تَركَ الذُنوبِ أَوجَب

لَكِنَّ تَركَ الذُنوبِ أَوجَب

It is people's duty to repent,

Repentance is incumbent upon mankind

It is a duty upon all people to repent,

But abandoning sins is a greater duty.

But abandoning sins is more obligatory

But the abandonment of sin is more obligatory.

وَالدَهرُ في صَرفِهِ عَجيبٌ

وَالدَهرُ في صَرفِهِ عَجيبٌ

وَغَفلَةُ الناسِ فيهِ أَعجَب

وَغَفلَةُ الناسِ فيهِ أَعجَب

And time is strange in its vicissitudes,

And the passage of time is wondrous

Time in its vicissitudes is strange,

And people's heedlessness of it is stranger.

But people's heedlessness of it, more wondrous

But the heedlessness of people therein is stranger.

وَالصَبرُ في النائِباتِ صَعبٌ

وَالصَبرُ في النائِباتِ صَعبٌ

لَكِنَّ فَوتَ الثَوابِ أَصعَب

لَكِنَّ فَوتَ الثَوابِ أَصعَب

And patience amid calamities is hard,

Patience in tribulations is difficult

Patience in the face of calamities is difficult,

But missing out on the reward is harder.

But missing the reward is more difficult

But the loss of the reward is more difficult.

وَكُلُّ ما يُرتَجَى قَريبٌ

وَكُلُّ ما يُرتَجَى قَريبٌ

وَالمَوتُ مِن كُلِّ ذاكَ أَقرَب

وَالمَوتُ مِن كُلِّ ذاكَ أَقرَب

And all that is hoped for is near,

And everything hoped for is near

Everything that is hoped for is near,

And death is nearer than all of that.

But death is nearer than all that

And death is nearer than all of that.
