لَو كانَ في صَخرَةٍ في البَحرِ راسيَة

لَو كانَ في صَخرَةٍ في البَحرِ راسيَة

صَمّاءَ مَلمومَةٍ مُلسٍ نَواحيها

صَمّاءَ مَلمومَةٍ مُلسٍ نَواحيها

If there were, in a rock firmly anchored in the sea—

If there were, within a rock anchored in the sea,

solid, compact, smooth on every side—

Solid, compact, and smooth upon its sides,

رِزقٌ لِعَبدٍ يَراهُ اللَهُ لانغَلَقَت

رِزقٌ لِعَبدٍ يَراهُ اللَهُ لانغَلَقَت

حَتّى يَؤدّى إِلَيهِ كُلُّ ما فيها

حَتّى يَؤدّى إِلَيهِ كُلُّ ما فيها

provision for a servant whom God sees, the rock would close up,

A servant's sustenance known to God, it would cleave asunder,

until everything within it was delivered to him.

Until it surrendered to him all that lay within.

أَو كانَ تَحتَ طِباقِ السَبعِ مَطلَبُها

أَو كانَ تَحتَ طِباقِ السَبعِ مَطلَبُها

كَسَهَّلِ اللَهِ في المَرقى مَراقيها

كَسَهَّلِ اللَهِ في المَرقى مَراقيها

Or if its goal lay beneath the seven layers,

Or were its quest beneath the seven layered heavens,

God would ease its upward paths in the ascent [wording uncertain],

God would surely make easy the steps of its ascent,

حَتّى تُودّي الَّذي في اللَوحِ خُطَّ لَهُ

حَتّى تُودّي الَّذي في اللَوحِ خُطَّ لَهُ

إِن هِي أَتَتهُ وَإِلّا سَوفَ يَأتيها

إِن هِي أَتَتهُ وَإِلّا سَوفَ يَأتيها

until it delivered what was inscribed for him on the Tablet.

Until it delivers what was inscribed for him in the Tablet,

If it comes to him; otherwise, he will come to it.

Whether it comes to him, or else he shall go to it.
