أَصبَحتُI have come to أَذكُرI recall أَرحاماًties of kinship آصِرَةًbinding
أَصبَحتُ أَذكُر أَرحاماً آصِرَةً
بُدِّلتُI was given in exchange مِنهاin place of them هُوِيَّrushing sound الرِيحِof the wind بِالقَصَبِthrough the reeds
بُدِّلتُ مِنها هُوِيَّ الرِيحِ بِالقَصَبِ
I now recall close bonds of kinship;
I begin to remember close wombs
I have come to remember binding ties of blood,
In their place, I have been given the wind’s rushing sound through the reeds.
From which I was transformed by the identity of the wind in the reed
Replaced, for me, by the whistling of wind through the reeds.
