رَأَيتُI saw الدَهرَtime مُختَلِفاًever-changing يَدورُrevolves
رَأَيتُ الدَهرَ مُختَلِفاً يَدورُ
فَلاso no حُزنٌsorrow يَدومُendures وَلاnor سُرورُjoy
فَلا حُزنٌ يَدومُ وَلا سُرورُ
I have seen time revolve, ever changing;
I observed Time revolving in its shifting states,
So neither sorrow nor joy endures.
For neither sorrow lasts, nor does joy endure,
وَقَدand indeed بَنَتِbuilt المُلوكُthe kings بِهِin it قَصوراًpalaces
وَقَد بَنَتِ المُلوكُ بِهِ قَصوراً
فَلَمso did not تَبقَremain المُلوكُthe kings وَلاnor القُصورُthe palaces
فَلَم تَبقَ المُلوكُ وَلا القُصورُ
And kings have built palaces in its course,
Kings have built palaces within its span,
Yet neither the kings nor the palaces remained.
Yet neither the kings remained, nor the palaces.
