زينُthe adornment الرِجالِof men بِهاthrough them تَعزُّyou gain dignity وَتَكرُمُand you gain honor
Choose new clothes when you dress, for they
I find that clothes, when I put them on
Renew your raiment when you dress, for truly it
are men's adornment; through them you gain dignity and honor.
Adorn men with them, grant them dignity and respect
Is the adornment of men, through which they grow in might and honor.
وَدَعِand leave aside التَواضُعَhumility فيin الثيابِclothing تَخَشُّعاًas a display of piety
فَاللَهُfor God يَعلَمُknows ماwhat تَجِنُّyou conceal وَتَكتُمُand you keep hidden
And forgo humble clothing worn as a display of piety,
Leave aside false modesty in clothes, feigning piety
Cast aside humility in clothing as a display of piety,
for God knows what you conceal and keep hidden.
For God knows what you hide and conceal
For God knows what you harbor and keep hidden.
فَرَثاثُfor the shabbiness ثَوبِكَof your garment لاnot يَزيدُكَbrings you more زُلفَةًnearness
عِندَwith الإِلَهِGod وَأَنتَwhile you are عَبدٌa servant مُجرِمُsinful
For your garment's shabbiness brings you no greater nearness
The shabbiness of your clothes will not draw you closer
The shabbiness of your robe adds nothing to your nearness
to God while you are a sinful servant.
To God while you remain a sinful servant
To God, if you remain a sinful servant.
وَبهاءُand the splendor ثَوبِكَof your garment لاnot يَضُرُكَharms you بَعدَafter أَنthat

And your garment's splendor does you no harm, once
The splendor of your clothes will not harm you once
Just as the splendor of your garb harms you not, so long as
you fear God and avoid what is forbidden.
You fear God and avoid the unlawful
You fear God and shun that which is forbidden.
