وَاللَهِBy God لَوif عاشَlived الفَتىthe young man مِنof دَهرِهِhis lifetime
أَلفاًa thousand مِنَof الأَعوامِthe years مالِكَmaster of أَمرِهِhis affairs
By God, if a young man lived, in his lifetime,
By God, if the young man lived a thousand years
By Allah, were a youth to live out his time,
A thousand years, master of his own affairs,
Controlling his affairs as he willed
A thousand years, possessing command of his affairs,
مُتَلَذِّذاًtaking pleasure فيهِin it بِكُلِّin every هَنِيَّةٍdelight
وَمُبَلَّغاًand enabled to attain كُلَّall المُنىthe wishes مِنfrom دَهرِهِhis lifetime
Delighting in every pleasure within it,
Indulging in every pleasure
Taking pleasure therein in every delight,
And granted every wish in his lifetime,
And attaining all of his desires
And attaining every wish of his life,
لاnot يَعرِفُknowing الآلامَpain فيهاin them مَرَّةًonce

Never knowing pain in those years even once—
Never knowing pain even once
Never knowing pain in it, not even once,
No indeed, nor worries ever crossing his mind—
Nor worries troubling his thoughts
Nay, nor did any worry ever cross his mind,

None of that would avail him against the enormity of what
That would not help him on the first night
That would avail him nothing against the enormity of what
He faces on the first night in his grave.
When he lies in his grave
He encounters on the first night in his grave.
