وَلَوأَنَّنيAnd had I جاوَبتُهُI answered him لأَمضَّهُwould surely have pained him
وَلَوأَنَّني جاوَبتُهُ لأَمضَّهُ

نَواقِدُ قَولي وَاِحتِضارُ جوابي
And had I answered him, he would have been pained
And had I answered him, my words would have destroyed him
And had I answered him, he would have been tormented by
By the sharp criticisms in my words and my ready reply.
My sleeping words and my answer on the verge of death
The biting refutations of my speech and my ready retort,
وَلَكِنَّنيBut I أُغضيI turn a blind eye عَلىdespite مَضَضِthe anguish of الحَشاthe heart
وَلَكِنَّني أُغضي عَلى مَضَضِ الحَشا
وَلَوAnd if شِئتُI wished إِقداماًan attack لَأُنشِبُI would surely sink in أَنيابيmy fangs
وَلَو شِئتُ إِقداماً لَأُنشِبُ أَنيابي
But I turn a blind eye, despite the anguish in my heart;
But I force myself to endure the bitterness of grief
But I turn a blind eye, despite the burning in my heart,
And if I chose to attack, I would sink in my fangs.
And had I wanted to pounce, I would have bared my fangs
Though had I wished to charge, I would have sunk my fangs.
