بالخصر منهُ تعلّقه

What a wondrous rump! You see

His waist you see I cling to

how it clings to his waist.

As we gallop on together

فتراهُ يذعرُ خلفهُ

كفؤاد صبّ أخفقه

So you see it quaking behind him,

Yet behind he looks back startled

like a lovesick lover’s heart he has set aflutter.

Like a throbbing heart grown fainter

فكأنّه من خصره

فكأنّه من خصره

بالخوف ليس على ثقه

بالخوف ليس على ثقه

So it seems, in his waist,

As if his waist were in my grasp

to have no trust, out of fear.

But confidence he does not muster
