سُرُورا جنينا وسرّا عجيبا

أعاد الشّباب وزان المشيبا

أعاد الشّباب وزان المشيبا

We have reaped joy and a wondrous secret,

which restored youth and adorned gray hair.

وقد عمّ كلّ الورى أنسه

وقد عمّ كلّ الورى أنسه

فلم تر في النّاس شخصا كئيبا

فلم تر في النّاس شخصا كئيبا

And its cheer has spread to all humankind,

so you saw no sorrowful person among the people.

فلم يشكُ دهرا أخُو حاجة

فلم يشكُ دهرا أخُو حاجة

ولا أوحش البينُ يوما غريبا

ولا أوحش البينُ يوما غريبا

So no one in need complained of fate,

nor did separation ever make a stranger lonely.

بختن بني الملك من لم تجد

بختن بني الملك من لم تجد

لهم في بني الدّهر يوما ضريبا

لهم في بني الدّهر يوما ضريبا

At the circumcision of the king's sons, for whom you never found

an equal among the sons of time, on any day:

أُسودُ شرى ونُجومُ سُرى

أُسودُ شرى ونُجومُ سُرى

شُموسُ ضُحى في العلى لن تغيبا

شُموسُ ضُحى في العلى لن تغيبا

Lions of Shara and stars of night journeys,

suns of midmorning in the heights, never to set.

سليمان يتلوهُ حمّودةٌ

سليمان يتلوهُ حمّودةٌ

ونجلا مليك تسامى حسيبا

ونجلا مليك تسامى حسيبا

Sulayman, followed by Hammuda,

and two sons of a sovereign of exalted lineage.

أيا ملك الفضل فاهنأ وطب

أيا ملك الفضل فاهنأ وطب

بذا الختن قلبا وصدرا رحيبا

بذا الختن قلبا وصدرا رحيبا

O king of bounty, rejoice and be glad

at this circumcision, with heart glad and breast expansive.

وأصغ لما قال تاريخهُ

وأصغ لما قال تاريخهُ

ختانٌ به اللهُ زادك طيبا

ختانٌ به اللهُ زادك طيبا

And listen to what its chronogram said:

“A circumcision through which God has increased your goodness.”
