وقالواand they said لماذاwhy لمhas not يقفhe stops لكfor you مرّةonce
وقالوا لماذا لم يقف لك مرّة
وعنكand past you مراراrepeatedly قدindeed يمرُّhe passes ويرجعاand he returns
وعنك مرارا قد يمرُّ ويرجعا
They said, “Why has he never once stopped for you,
And they said, "Why has he not stopped for you even once,
though time and again he passes you by, then turns back?”
Yet time and again he passes you by and returns?"
فقلتso I said لهمto them لاdo not تعجبواmarvel (you plural) منat مُرورُهhis passing
فقلت لهم لا تعجبوا من مُرورُه
فليسfor it is not وُقُوفُstanding still الشّمسthe sun إلاexcept ليوشعاfor Joshua
فليس وُقُوفُ الشّمس إلا ليوشعا
I told them, “Do not marvel at his passing—
So I told them, "Do not marvel at his passing,
the sun stood still for Joshua alone.”
For the sun stands still for Joshua alone."
