رأيت بها ما يرفع الغمّ والأسى

رأيت بها ما يرفع الغمّ والأسى

ويسليك عن أها ووجه حبيب

ويسليك عن أها ووجه حبيب

There I saw what lifts grief and sorrow,

I saw in it what lifts gloom and sorrow

And makes you forget family [reading uncertain] and a beloved’s face.

And distracts you from sighs and a beloved's face

رأيت بها ما يحسب المرء أنه

رأيت بها ما يحسب المرء أنه

أوى جنّة الفردوس قبل شعوب

أوى جنّة الفردوس قبل شعوب

There I saw what makes a person think that he

I saw in it what makes one think

Has found refuge in the Garden of Paradise before death.

He has reached Paradise before others

رأيت ذوي الأسقام والداء كلهم

رأيت ذوي الأسقام والداء كلهم

بها سقمهم يشفى بغير طبيب

بها سقمهم يشفى بغير طبيب

I saw all those afflicted with ailments and disease:

I saw those with all kinds of illness and malady

There their sickness is healed without a physician.

Get cured by it without a doctor

رأيت بها عوذ الشّباب بسرعة

رأيت بها عوذ الشّباب بسرعة

ويسودّ شعر المرء بعد مشيب

ويسودّ شعر المرء بعد مشيب

There I saw youth swiftly return [reading uncertain],

I saw in it the protection of youth quickly

And a person’s hair turns black after greying.

And the hair of a man turning black after greying

رأيت غريب الدّار يحسب أنه

رأيت غريب الدّار يحسب أنه

بها داره والأهل غيرُ غريب

بها داره والأهل غيرُ غريب

I saw a stranger far from home think that he

I saw a stranger thinking

Was there at home among family, no stranger.

It is his home and family, not a foreign place

ومن يجتهد في ان الأرض مثلها

ومن يجتهد في ان الأرض مثلها

فمجتهد في الحكم غير مصيب

فمجتهد في الحكم غير مصيب

And whoever strives to claim that the earth is its equal

And whoever strives to say the earth is like it

Strives in judgment, yet is mistaken.
