Her death poem stirs feelings -

Do not the seas flow from her?

Do not oceans flow from it?

قد زاد في الأبحر بحرين من

عينيه فهو الأخفش الأصغرُ

He has added two seas to the seas, from

Two seas were added to the seas

his eyes—so he is al-Akhfash the Younger.

From his eyes, he was the junior Akhfash

لو لم يكن في الشّعر ليثاً لما

لو لم يكن في الشّعر ليثاً لما

كان لهُ منهُ فمٌ أبخرُ

Had he not been a lion in poetry, he would not

have had a foul-smelling mouth from it.

He would not have had from it a fragrant mouth

وثغرُه لو لم يكن روضة

ما حفّهُ الأخضرُ الأصفرُ

And had his mouth not been a garden,

And his lips, had they not been a garden

the green and yellow would not have surrounded it.
