يا من له في ذرى العلياء تمكين

والعدل منه بجيد الملك تزيين

O you who stand secure upon the heights of glory,

And whose justice adorns the neck of kingship;

ومن له أصبحت دُنياهُ ضاحكة

وفلك أمالها بالفوز مشحوُنُ

And you whose world has come to smile,

And the ship of its hopes is laden with triumph;

ومن لهُ خضعت بالرّغم طائعة

كلّ العداء وفيه الحلمُ والليَّنُ

And you, to whom, despite themselves, have bowed obediently

All foes, while in you dwell forbearance and gentleness;

ومن تردّى بأثواب العفاف ومن

على التقى زانهُ والعلمُ والدّين

And you who have robed yourself in garments of chastity, and whom

Piety's lofty virtues, learning and faith have adorned;

يهنيك نجل عزيز طاب عنصُرهُ

ومنبتٌ دون ريَّاه الرّياحينُ

May a cherished son of noble stock gladden you,

And a root whose fragrance the fragrant herbs cannot equal:

محمَّدٌ وهو بالمأمون متَّسمٌ

وإنّ طالعهٌ يا لسَّعد مقرُون

Muhammad, who is styled al-Ma'mun,

And indeed his rising star—oh!—is joined to good fortune.

به برغم الأعادي قد بلغت مني

هُم منهُ كلّ بسمر الخطّ مطعُونُ

Through him, despite the foes, you have attained your wishes;

Every one of them is pierced by him with the dusky spears of al-Khatt.

أنى بتفحين وسلات مقدمة

وجُرّ في إثره للصّبح عمدُونُ

Whence, with Tafhin, Waslat as a vanguard? [Wording unclear.]

And Amdun was drawn in his wake toward dawn.

طريق ملكك مأمُونُ زاد به

أمنا بملكك في الحالين مضمونُ

The course of your reign is secure; through him it has increased

In safety, assured by your kingship in both states.

إذ بشرتك به العليا مؤرّخة

ذا يوم مُلكك بالمأمون مأمونُ

When Glory brought you tidings of him, recording the date:

"This day of your reign is secure through al-Ma'mun."
