يا سائلي عن حال سعد واللّبا

يا سائلي عن حال سعد واللّبا

ش كلاهما في صُحبة المردان

ش كلاهما في صُحبة المردان

O you who ask me about the state of Saʿd and al-Labāsh,

O you who ask of Saad and Labba's state,

both are in the company of beardless youths.

Both are in the company of the youths,

فهما كما تدري إذا ما أبصرا

فهما كما تدري إذا ما أبصرا

ظبيا يميسُ قوامُهُ كالبان

ظبيا يميسُ قوامُهُ كالبان

For you know how they both are whenever they see

For as you know, when they espy,

a gazelle whose figure sways like a bān tree.

A gazelle with graceful gait,
