يا بليغا أتى قريضك يهمي

همي بحر أزرى بصوب الغمائم

O eloquent one, your poem has come to me

My concern is a heavy sea heading towards the clouds

أوحشتنا بفقدها ثُمّ جاءت

غبّ شوق بوبل أنس لهائم

We were saddened by her absence, then she came

The longing of a loving heart returns to the distracted

ذكرّتنا وما نسينا ولكن

قد يُعادُ الفتى بما هُو عالم

She reminded us, and we did not forget, but

A young man may be brought back by what he knows

أكدّت في لقاك أفعال شوق

رُبّما أكدّ الرُّقى بالتّمائم

Your meeting has emphasized the actions of longing

Ascent may emphasize amulets

قطعة تذعنُ لاأنام إليها

لم يحم حول نسجها قطّ حائم

A piece I do not sleep to

No protector has ever woven around its composition

يا أديبا حويت نظما بليغا

ولسانا يفوقُ مسك اللطّائم

O literary man, you have contained eloquent poetry

And a tongue that surpasses the scent of perfume

سائلوني من الّذي أنت فيه

هائمٌ قُلتُ ظاهرُ الاسم رائم

They asked me who are you infatuated with

I said the prominent name is pleasing

فأجابوا إلام فيه مُعنّى

تنسجُ المدح قُلتُ قول مُلائم

So they asked why is there meaning in it

You compose praise, I said it’s a fitting saying

قد كفاني عن الأوادم طُرّا

بنكات تُزري بزهر الكمائم

It was enough to protect me from companions

With insights that bloom like chamomile

وسلام بيديه من هُو يُدعى

بائم طير مُعلمّ لابن آدم

And greetings from the one called

Soothing bird teaching the son of Adam
