A coquettish, full-figured young beauty, she appeared,
A tender-hearted beauty appeared

Between the strings of her lute and arrows
When she gazes, humankind’s blood is shed.

لوif ملوكthe kings الهوىof passion دعتsummoned كلّevery حبّlover
لو ملوك الهوى دعت كلّ حبّ
للهوىto passion ماnot أطعتُI obeyed إلاexcept مُلوكهMulūka (a name echoing ‘its kings’)
للهوى ما أطعتُ إلا مُلوكه
If the kings of passion summoned every lover
If the kings of love called every love
To passion, I would obey none but Mulūka.
To love, I would obey only its queen
