تقرّب للعلم الشريف فنالهُ
وباتand spent the night علىover فهمunderstanding المعانيthe meanings يُكابدُhe labors
وبات على فهم المعاني يُكابدُ
He drew near to noble knowledge and attained it,
He pursued noble knowledge and attained it
and spent the night laboring to understand the meanings.
And spent the night comprehending meanings while enduring hardship
تحلّىadorned himself بتقوىwith reverence for اللهGod سرّاin secret وجهرةand openly
تحلّى بتقوى الله سرّا وجهرة
وراحand went forth لغزوto wage war against الكافرينthe unbelievers يُجاهدُhe strives in battle
وراح لغزو الكافرين يُجاهدُ
He adorned himself with reverence for God, in secret and openly,
He adorned himself with secret and open piety to God
and went forth striving to wage war against the unbelievers.
And went to fight the unbelievers as a warrior
وأوقاتُهُand his hours معمورةٌfilled بدُرُوسهwith his lessons
وأوقاتُهُ معمورةٌ بدُرُوسه
وليسand there is no لهُto him أجرٌpayment علىfor ذاكthat عائدُreturning
وليس لهُ أجرٌ على ذاك عائدُ
And his hours are filled with his lessons,
His time occupied with his lessons
and no payment comes to him for that.
He earns no reward for this
لاno غروwonder إذsince أحياhe revived معالمlandmarks of جدّهhis grandfather
لا غرو إذ أحيا معالم جدّه
وصارتand came to be بهthrough him أنوارُهاtheir lights تتزايدُincreasing
وصارت به أنوارُها تتزايدُ
No wonder, for he revived his grandfather's landmarks,
No wonder that he revived the ways of his grandfather
and through him their lights have continued to grow.
And through him its light increased
ولاand not زالmay he cease فيin عزّglory يدُومُthat endures ورفعةand eminence
ولا زال في عزّ يدُومُ ورفعة
بهاthrough it تكمدُpine with grief الأعداthe enemies ويُرغمُand is humbled حاسدُan envier
بها تكمدُ الأعدا ويُرغمُ حاسدُ
May he ever remain in lasting glory and eminence,
He remains forever mighty and sublime
through which enemies pine with grief and an envier is humbled.
