أقُولُI say وقدand already أشاعُواthey spread word عنهُabout him صدّيshunning me
أقُولُ وقد أشاعُوا عنهُ صدّي
وسدّىand he laid the warp ليfor me ثيابgarments ضنىwasting ووجدand longing
وسدّى لي ثياب ضنى ووجد
I say, as they spread word of his shunning me,
I say, though they spread far and wide, tales of woe about him whose loss I mourn,
And he has woven me garments of wasting and longing:
And clothes of grief and ache are my robes, clothes of joy now outworn,
لئنeven if أضحىhe has become مُجدّاintent فيin صُدوديshunning me
لئن أضحى مُجدّا في صُدودي
فلاthen not أبغيI seek سوىother than ذاكthat المسدّيthe warp-setter
فلا أبغي سوى ذاك المسدّي
Even if he has grown intent on shunning me,
Though glory itself now dwells inside my ribs, piercing my heart forlorn,
Then I seek none but that weaver.
Naught else do I wish for, but my dear one, now gone, to return, reborn.
