I love him, a bough whose root lies in my heart.
I loved a branch, its roots in the wilderness
His branches have already triumphed over the heart.
It has captured my heart, its branches spread

A king of beauty who has no equal;
A king of beauty, none can equal him
The kings of all mankind are his followers.
Kings of all people are his followers

A gazelle who, whenever he smiles and bares his teeth,
A gazelle, when his smile departs
Grows more hasty because of my tears.
My tears flow faster in their course

A flash of lightning gleams from his smiling mouth;
A radiant lightning flashes in his smile
Its flashes rob the eyes of sight.
Dazzling all sights that behold him

How many have been slain by yearning in love for him—
How I die of yearning in my love for him
The desires of ascetics among mankind!
Though ascetic, desires fill me for him

A full moon whose jeweled splendour now steals the lustre
A full moon will rise and steal its adornment
From every necklace whose gem-setter is illustrious.
For every constellation, dimming its stars
