فإنّ الشّهب دونك في العلوّ

فإنّ الشّهب دونك في العلوّ

Be generous, O exalted king,

O exalted king, ascend

For the bright stars are beneath you in loftiness.

For the stars compared to you are low

عشقت المكرمات بغير شكّ

عشقت المكرمات بغير شكّ

وذاك العشقُ مُمتنع السلوّ

وذاك العشقُ مُمتنع السلوّ

You have loved noble deeds, beyond doubt,

I have loved gifts undoubtedly

And that love cannot be forgotten.

And that love cannot be attained

غدا للجمع يمنع بين حظّي

غدا للجمع يمنع بين حظّي

وبيني مُدبرُ الزّمن العدُوّ

وبيني مُدبرُ الزّمن العدُوّ

Now thwarting the union of my fortune

Tomorrow at the gathering he will prevent

And me is the hostile turn of time.

Between my fortune and me, the enemy, time

فهل أحظى بمنفعة أراها

فهل أحظى بمنفعة أراها

لكيسي منك مانعة الخلوّ

لكيسي منك مانعة الخلوّ

So may I gain a boon that I see

Will I be granted any benefit I see

Keeping my purse from emptiness, bestowed by you?

From you, my wise one, preventing solitude
