Bakkār, O possessor of high honors,

    and ruler who humbles enemies,

you have appointed among us a man without honor,

as a market inspector unjust toward us.

For five make a ratl of al-hazbal (unclear term), yet

with four he beguiles the eye.

    This points to a siphoning-off

that has diminished the practice of righteousness among us.

Can goodness abound in a land

where Qallāl has become a trustee?
