وذي ازورار ابت عيناهُ مُرتحلا

وذي ازورار ابت عيناهُ مُرتحلا

قال الحياءُ أنا أولى بمرتحل

قال الحياءُ أنا أولى بمرتحل

And one who turned away, whose eyes rebuffed a traveler—

With eyes of azure this wanderer came

Modesty said, “I have the greater claim to departure.”

Modesty said: "I'm the one who should leave in shame"

فيم الإقامةُ بالزّوراء لا سكني

فيم الإقامةُ بالزّوراء لا سكني

بها ولا ناقتي فيها ولا جملي

بها ولا ناقتي فيها ولا جملي

Why remain in al-Zawra? My dwelling is not

Why stay in the land of falsehood, not meant as my home?

there, nor is my she-camel there, nor my he-camel.

No shelter have I there, nor camel, nor supplies to roam
