إِذاwhenever جَدَّدَrenewed اللَهُGod ليfor me نِعمَةًa blessing
شَكَرتُI gave thanks وَلَمand not يَرَنيHe sees me جاحِداungrateful
Whenever God renews a blessing for me,
When God renews a blessing for me
I give thanks, and He does not find me ungrateful.
I give thanks, and am not seen as ungrateful,
وَلَمand not يَزَلِcease اللَهُGod بِالعائِداتِwith renewed blessings
عَلىupon مَنwhoever يَجودُgives generously بِهاwith them عائِداreturning
And God has never ceased returning with renewed blessings
And God does not cease to return
to whoever gives them generously.
To one who gives generously.
أَياO جامِعَgatherer of المالِwealth وَفَّرتَهُyou amassed it
لِغَيرِكَfor someone other than you إِذsince لَمnot تَكُنyou are خالِداimmortal
O gatherer of wealth, you have amassed it
O you who hoards wealth and buried it
for someone other than yourself, since you are not immortal.
For other than you, since you will not last,
فَإِنso if قُلتَyou said أَجمَعُهُI gather it لِلبَنينَfor the sons
فَقَدthen perhaps يَسبِقُprecedes الوَلَدُthe child الوالِداthe father
So if you say, “I gather it for my sons,”
If you say "I hoard it for my sons"
a child may yet precede his father in death.
The son may precede the father in death.
وَإِنand if قُلتَyou said أَخشىI fear صُروفَvicissitudes of الزَمانِtime
فَكُنthen be فيamid تَصاريفِهِits changing fortunes واحِداone
And if you say, “I fear the vicissitudes of time,”
And if you say "I fear the vicissitudes of fate"
then be one amid its changing fortunes.
Then be as one with its twists and turns.
