What a pillar of Islam has given way!

What a day has laid the days low!

The loss of the emir surpasses every loss

Ever grasped by the mind's imaginings.

The days have robbed us of a sheltering shade,

And laid open a sanctuary once hard to reach.

O sons of Mus'ab, you hold among the people

The place of souls within bodies.

So if some misfortune of time troubles you,

What befalls you in particular afflicts all mankind.

Look: do you see anything but tears,

    Bearing witness to bleeding hearts?

Who will heal the world, and who will guard the kingdom

In the face of crushing, mighty calamities?

We died with his death; and the gravest

Calamity is the death of lords and eminent men.

He has not died while the emir Tahir lives,

Ever exacting vengeance and bestowing favors.

And after him, he is the binding thread of noble deeds,

And the world's mainstay and the imam's sword.
