إِلىto اللَهِGod فيماconcerning what نابَناhas befallen us نَرفَعُwe raise الشَكوىthe complaint
فَفيfor in يَدِهِHis hand كَشفُremoval الضَرورَةِhardship وَالبَلوىand affliction
To God we raise our complaint over what has befallen us.
To God for what has befallen us we raise complaint
For in His hand lies relief from hardship and affliction.
For in His hand lies the relief of hardship and trial
خَرَجناwe have left مِنَfrom الدُنياthe world وَنَحنُwhile we مِنَamong اَهلِهاits people
فَلَسناso we are not مِنَamong الأَحياءِthe living فيهاin it وَلاnor المَوتىthe dead
We have left the world, though we are among its people.
We have departed from the world while still among its people
So we are neither among the living in it nor among the dead.
Thus we are neither of the living in it nor of the dead
إِذاwhen جاءَناcomes to us السَجّانُthe jailer يَوماًone day لِحاجَةٍon an errand
عَجِبناwe marvel وَقُلناand we say جاءَhas come هذاthis man مِنَfrom الدُنياthe world
When the jailer comes to us one day on an errand,
When the guard comes to us one day for a need
We marvel and say, 'This man has come from the world.'
We are surprised and say he came from the world
وَنَفرَحُand we rejoice بِالرُؤياin dreams فَجُلَّfor most of حَديثِناour talk
إِذاwhen نَحنُwe أَصبَحناwe enter the morning الحَديثُthe talk عَنِabout الرُؤياdreams
And we rejoice in dreams, for most of our talk
And we rejoice in the dream, most of our talk
When morning comes is talk of dreams.
Is when we become, our talk is of the dream
فَإِنfor if حَسُنَتit is good لَمnot تَأتِit comes عَجلىin haste وَأَبطَأَتand it is slow
وَإِنand if قَبُحَتit is bad لَمnot تَحتَبِسit lingers وَأَتَتand it comes عَجلىin haste
For if a dream is good, it comes not in haste, but is delayed;
If it is good, it does not come hastily but delays
And if it is bad, it does not tarry, but comes in haste.
And if it is ugly, it does not tarry but comes hastily
