فَألٌ سَرى بِسَبيلِهِ المُتَوَكِّلُ

فَألٌ سَرى بِسَبيلِهِ المُتَوَكِّلُ

فَالسَروُ يَسري بِالمَنِيَّةُ تَنزِلُ

فَالسَروُ يَسري بِالمَنِيَّةُ تَنزِلُ

An omen along whose path al-Mutawakkil traveled by night;

The confident cypress went on its way

For the cypress journeys by night with death descending.

Yet the cypress goes on to its demise

ما سُربِلَت إِلّا لِأَنَّ إِمامَنا

ما سُربِلَت إِلّا لِأَنَّ إِمامَنا

بِالسَيفِ مِن أَولادِهِ مُتَسَربِلُ

بِالسَيفِ مِن أَولادِهِ مُتَسَربِلُ

It was clothed only because our imam

It was only clothed as such for our leader

Is clad in the sword from his sons.

Is dressed in the sword of his descendants
