What shall I say when the reciters chant

my eloquent verse in praise of the just Imam,

and the eloquent admire the worth of a poem

for the most exalted man praised, by the most eloquent speaker,

and their bodies sway, as though

in every rhyme were the choice wine of Babylon,

then, after the verse and its crafting, they turn

to ask one another about generosity and gifts?

Suppose, O Commander of the Faithful, that I am

the Quss of eloquence—what answer can I give the questioner?
