سعِدَhas rejoiced الزمانُtime وكلand every موسمseason of غبطةٍgladness
سعِدَ الزمانُ وكل موسم غبطةٍ
مأثورةٍpreserved in memory بالصَّاحبthrough al-Sahib بنson of الصَّاحبِal-Sahib
مأثورةٍ بالصَّاحب بن الصَّاحبِ
Time rejoiced, and every season became a delight
Time has rejoiced, and every season of gladness
made memorable by al-Sahib, son of al-Sahib—
Preserved in memory, through al-Sahib, son of al-Sahib—
ببهاءِthrough Baha' (the splendor of) دينthe faith of اللّهِGod والنَّدُسِand the discerning man الذيwho
ببهاءِ دين اللّهِ والنَّدُسِ الذي
وقفَdevoted الثراءَwealth علىto ندىًgenerosity ورغائبِand prized gifts
وقفَ الثراءَ على ندىً ورغائبِ
by the Splendor of God’s Faith, that astute man who
Through Baha' Din Allah, the discerning man who
made wealth an endowment for bounty and precious gifts.
Devoted wealth to generosity and prized gifts.
نشوانُintoxicated منby ذكرmention of العلاءglory كأنماas though
نشوانُ من ذكر العلاء كأنما
فيin كلevery منقبةٍnoble deed مُدامةُwine of شاربِa drinker
في كل منقبةٍ مُدامةُ شاربِ
Intoxicated by the remembrance of exalted glory, as though
Intoxicated by the mention of glory, as though
each noble virtue held a drinker’s wine.
In every noble deed lay a drinker's wine.
تُربيrises higher علىthan الطَّودthe mountain المُنيفِtowering أناتُهhis forbearance
تُربي على الطَّود المُنيفِ أناتُه
ويفوقُand he surpasses حدَّthe edge of صوارمٍkeen swords وقواضِبِand cleaving swords
ويفوقُ حدَّ صوارمٍ وقواضِبِ
His patient forbearance overtops the lofty mountain,
His forbearance rises above the towering mountain,
and surpasses the edge of keen swords and cleaving blades.
And he surpasses the edge of keen and cleaving swords.
ويبيتُand spends the night منهُthrough him جارهُhis neighbor وضيوفُهُand his guests
ويبيتُ منهُ جارهُ وضيوفُهُ
رُغداًin comfort وأمْناًand in safety فيwithin حمىًa protected haven ومَلاعبِand pleasure grounds
رُغداً وأمْناً في حمىً ومَلاعبِ
His neighbor and his guests spend the night with him
Through him, his neighbor and his guests spend the night
in ease and safety, amid sanctuary and grounds of delight—
In comfort and safety, within a haven and pleasure grounds.
بممدَّحٍthrough a much-praised man لاnot يُستزادُis asked for more بمدحهِthrough praising him
بممدَّحٍ لا يُستزادُ بمدحهِ
صَفْوِpure in الخلائقِcharacter traits سالمٍsafe منfrom عائِبِa fault-finder
صَفْوِ الخلائقِ سالمٍ من عائِبِ
by Muhammad, whose praise admits no further increase—
Through a much-praised man, not asked for more through praise of him,
the choicest of creation, untouched by any faultfinder—
Pure in character, safe from any fault-finder;
بفتىًthrough a youth أبَرَّexcelled علىbeyond الصباحِthe dawn نِجارُهhis lineage
بفتىً أبَرَّ على الصباحِ نِجارُه
وازدادand grew اِشْراقاًin radiance بفخرِthrough the glory of مكاسِبِachievements
وازداد اِشْراقاً بفخرِ مكاسِبِ
by a young man whose lineage outshines the dawn,
Through a youth whose lineage outshone the dawn
while radiance grows brighter through the glory of his achievements.
And grew more radiant with the glory of his achievements.
