شكُّوا أشَمْسٌ أنت قَمَرٌ

شكُّوا أشَمْسٌ أنت قَمَرٌ

ولفرْطِ حُسنكَ أشكلَ الأمْرُ

ولفرْطِ حُسنكَ أشكلَ الأمْرُ

They wondered: are you a sun or a moon?

They doubted you were a sun, you are a moon

And because of your surpassing beauty, the matter grew unclear.

And for your excessive beauty the matter is obscured

فانْجابَ ليلُ الشَّكِّ حين قَضى

فانْجابَ ليلُ الشَّكِّ حين قَضى

ليلُ العِذارِ بأنكَ البَدْرُ

ليلُ العِذارِ بأنكَ البَدْرُ

Then the night of doubt lifted when judgment was pronounced

So the night of doubt responded when it passed away

By the night of your cheek-down: you are the full moon.
