وَصَلَarrived الجوادُthe steed منfrom الجَوادِthe generous man
وَصَلَ الجوادُ من الجَوادِ
رَبِّlord of العَوارِفِbounties والأياديand favors
رَبِّ العَوارِفِ والأيادي
The steed has arrived from the generous man,
The stallion arrived, from the stallions,
lord of bounty and favors.
Lord of the cognitions and the hands,
رحْبُbroad اللَّبانِthe chest سَماrose high لَهُfor it
رحْبُ اللَّبانِ سَما لَهُ
لَحْظٌgaze ورادِفَةٌand a croup وهاديand a neck
لَحْظٌ ورادِفَةٌ وهادي
Broad-chested; lofty are its
Spacious are its pastures, the sky is his domain,
gaze, croup, and neck.
A gaze, a gallop and a guide.
جُمِعَتْwere gathered لِمُرْسِلِهِfor its sender المَناقِبُthe virtues
جُمِعَتْ لِمُرْسِلِهِ المَناقِبُ
وهوand it مَجْموعthe sum of المُرادِall that is desired
وهو مَجْموع المُرادِ
All virtues are gathered in its sender,
His attributes were assembled for its sender,
and it embodies all that one desires.

بيومِon a day of مَيْدانٍan arena ونادِand an assembly

Thus the two are alike, racing one another
So they resembled two competing,
on a day of arena and assembly.
On a day of field and club.
هذاthis one سَبوقٌsurpassing للأجاahead of the generous (word begins here)
هذا سَبوقٌ للأجا
وِدِcompletion of 'generous men' وهوand it سَبَّاقoutstripping الجِيادِthe steeds
وِدِ وهو سَبَّاق الجِيادِ
This one outstrips the generous
This is an advance for the beloved,
men, while the other outstrips the steeds.
And it is the forerunner of the steeds.
أهْداهُgave it as a gift أرْوَعُsplendid ماجِدٌnoble
أهْداهُ أرْوَعُ ماجِدٌ
ساميlofty المَحَلَّةِthe dwelling والعِمادِand the pillars
سامي المَحَلَّةِ والعِمادِ
A splendid, noble man gave it,
The most magnificent bestowed it,
of lofty dwelling and towering pillars.
The lofty pillar and base.
تشْكوcomplain of العِشارُten-month-pregnant she-camels الكُومُhigh-humped صارِمَهُhis sharp sword
تشْكو العِشارُ الكُومُ صارِمَهُ
كماjust as تشْكوcomplain الأعاديthe enemies
كما تشْكو الأعادي
The pregnant, high-humped she-camels lament his sword,
The foes complain of its sharp blade,
as his enemies do.
As the enemies complain.
فصباحُهُso his morning جَمُّabundant in الغُبارِdust
فصباحُهُ جَمُّ الغُبارِ
وليْلُهُand his night جَمُّabundant in الرَّمادِashes
وليْلُهُ جَمُّ الرَّمادِ
His morning is thick with dust,
So its morning overwhelms the dust,
and his night is thick with ashes.
And its night overwhelms the ashes.
الخِرْقُthe gallant, generous man عِزُّʿIzz (glory) الدِّينِal-Din (of the faith) هازِمُvanquisher of
الخِرْقُ عِزُّ الدِّينِ هازِمُ
كلِّevery رائعَةِterrifying نَأدِcalamity
كلِّ رائعَةِ نَأدِ
The gallant ʿIzz al-Din, vanquisher
The breach is the might of the religion, defeating
of every terrifying calamity,
Every roaring lion.
بمَضاءِwith the resolve of إِقْدامٍdaring تُظاهِرُهُsupports it
بمَضاءِ إِقْدامٍ تُظاهِرُهُ
أناةٌdeliberation مِنْfrom سَدادِsound judgment
أناةٌ مِنْ سَدادِ
with resolute daring, supported
With the brightness of courage complementing it
by deliberation born of sound judgment.
Is composure from integrity.
كالسَّيْفِlike a sword ثَبْتٌsteadfast فيin الغُمودِthe sheaths
كالسَّيْفِ ثَبْتٌ في الغُمودِ
وقاطِعٌand cutting يومَon the day of الجِلادِcombat
وقاطِعٌ يومَ الجِلادِ
Like a sword, steady when sheathed,
Firm in the sheath like a sword,
and cutting on the day of combat.
And cutting on the day of confrontation.
يَهْتَزُّhe quivers مِنat ذِكْرِthe mention of العُلىglory
يَهْتَزُّ مِن ذِكْرِ العُلى
هَزَّwith the quivering of المُثَقَّفَةِstraightened الصِّعادِthe spears
هَزَّ المُثَقَّفَةِ الصِّعادِ
He quivers at the mention of glory,
It shakes from the mention of the Most High,
as straightened spears quiver.
The shaking of the cultivated hillsides.
ويُرِيكَand he shows you مِنfrom قَسَماتِهِhis features
ويُرِيكَ مِن قَسَماتِهِ
لَمعانَthe gleam of مُرْهفَةٍhoned blades حِدادِkeen-edged
لَمعانَ مُرْهفَةٍ حِدادِ
And he shows you in his features
And it shows you from its features,
the gleam of sharpened, keen-edged blades.
The radiance of judicious blacksmiths.
وهوand he المُجاهِدُthe warrior waging jihad بالشَّآمِin al-Sham
وهو المُجاهِدُ بالشَّآمِ
وبالعراقand in Iraq أخُوa brother to جِهادِjihad
وبالعراق أخُو جِهادِ
He is the warrior in al-Sham,
It is the fighter in the Levant,
and in Iraq, a brother to jihad,
And in Iraq a brother of jihad.
مِنfrom تَحتِbeneath راياتِthe banners of الإِمامَةِthe imamate
مِن تَحتِ راياتِ الإِمامَةِ
وهيand it داعيَةُcalling to الرَّشادِright guidance
وهي داعيَةُ الرَّشادِ
from beneath the banners of the imamate,
Under the banners of the Imamate,
which calls to right guidance.
Which calls unto guidance.
فأعِيذُso I seek protection for مَجْدَthe glory of المَرْزُبانِthe Marzuban
فأعِيذُ مَجْدَ المَرْزُبانِ
بِرافِعِwith Him who raised السَّبعِthe seven heavens الشِّدادِmighty
بِرافِعِ السَّبعِ الشِّدادِ
So I seek protection for the Marzuban's glory
So I seek refuge in the glory of Marzuban,
with Him who raised the seven mighty heavens.
With the Brandisher of the Firm Mountains.
وأبيحُهُand I grant him مِدَحاًpraises تَدارَسُare recited and studied
وأبيحُهُ مِدَحاً تَدارَسُ
فيin الحَواضِرِthe towns والبَوديand the desert lands
في الحَواضِرِ والبَودي
And I grant him praises to be recited
And I speak it in praise circulated
in towns and desert lands.
In the cities and plains.
تَتأرَّجُgrows fragrant الدُّنْياthe world لَهاbecause of them
تَتأرَّجُ الدُّنْيا لَها
مِنwith غيرِno مِسْكٍmusk أوْor جِسادِsaffron
مِن غيرِ مِسْكٍ أوْ جِسادِ
The world grows fragrant from them,
The world glitters for it,
without musk or saffron.
Without musk or perfume.
سَيَّارةٌwidely roaming أبْياتُهاtheir verses
سَيَّارةٌ أبْياتُها
كَمسيرِlike the travels of صيتيmy renown فيthrough البِلادِthe lands
كَمسيرِ صيتي في البِلادِ
Their verses roam afar,
A carriage whose verses
as my renown travels through the lands.
Travel like the extent of my fame in the lands.
