تبارىvied with one another شَباsharp edges آرائِهِhis counsels ورِماحُهُand his spears
وكُلٌّand each بطَعْنat piercing الدَّارعينَarmored men عَليمُskilled
The sharp edges of his counsels vie with his spears,
His opinions and spears contend in glory,
And each is skilled at piercing armored men.
And each is adept at piercing armored foes.
فخافٍthus hidden لهُhis قَرْعُstriking الرَّويَّةdeliberation سالمٌsound
وبادٍand visible لهُhis صدرُpoint القَناةِthe spear حَطيمُshattered
Thus his deliberation's hidden stroke is sound,
The clanging of armor is safe from him,
And his spear's visible point is shattered.
And the breastplate is shattered by his blows.
إذاwhen ماemphatic particle اسمهرَّgrew fierce الموتُdeath فيalong حافتيْهِماtheir two edges
أقَرَّsubmitted لهُto him ذِمْرٌa valiant warrior ودانَand yielded حكيمُa sage
Whenever death bristles along their two edges,
When death takes on a pale hue in their faces,
A valiant warrior submits to him, and a sage yields.
He submits to fate and the wise one yields.
يَعُزُّgrows mighty ويُثْريand grows rich منfrom نَداهُhis bounty وبأسهِand his might
وماand not استصرخاهthe two cried to him for help خائفٌa frightened man وعديمُand a destitute man
Through his bounty and might, one grows strong and rich,
He enriches and strengthens those near him, his might,
Without the frightened and the destitute having cried to him for help.
Not what the fearful and destitute appealed for.
فللضَّيفِso for the guest والجارِand the neighbor المُقيمِdwelling بأرضهin his land
سَجيسَfor the duration of اللياليthe nights عِزَّةٌhonor ونَعيمُand bliss
So for the guest and the neighbor dwelling in his land,
For guest and neighbor settled on his land,
Are honor and bliss for as long as nights endure.
Noble nights, honor and joy he yields.

عصَفْتَyou blew fiercely بشيطانagainst the demon التكبُّرِarrogance عصْفةًa fierce blast
وشيطانُand the demon كِبْرِpride القادرينَthe powerful رَجيمُaccursed
You swept away the demon of arrogance with a fierce blast,
You lashed the demon of arrogance,
And accursed is the demon of the powerful's pride.
And the demon of the arrogant you sealed.

غَداbecame المحْلُdrought منfrom جدْواكyour bounty وهوwhile it was هزيمrouted
So it was defeated by your gentleness, just as
So he was defeated by your kindness, just as
Drought was routed by your bounty.
The arena from your munificence kneels.

So there is no crisis but you are its generous benefactor,
No calamity but you are its solace,
And no harshness but you are merciful.
No harshness but you are gentle and healed.

The viziers have gained glory, since you are one of them,
The ministers prided in you,
Just as Tamim has won honor through you.
As Tameem prides in its musk that reveals.
