أأتركُShall I leave محييthe reviver of العدلjustice والشوقُand longing قائديmy guide
لهto him اِننيindeed I منْas عاشِقٍa lover لَجَليدُindeed hardy
Shall I leave the reviver of justice, while longing guides me
To him? I must indeed be a lover of great endurance!
وأثنيand I turn رقابَthe necks of العيسthe pale camels عنaway from موقفthe station of العلىglory
لَحزْميَsurely my prudence عنfrom رأيٍa judgment أجَلْتُI weighed بعيدُfar removed
And turn the pale camels’ necks away from the station of glory?
Surely my prudence would be far from a judgment I had weighed.
وانيand indeed I لُمثْنٍsurely one who praises حيثwherever كنتI may be بمجدهِof his glory
ثناءًpraise علىbeyond نشرthe fragrance of الرياضِthe gardens يَزيدُsurpasses
And wherever I may be, I do indeed praise his glory,
With praise surpassing the fragrance of gardens—
بمجدِof the glory of عمادِpillar of الدينthe faith والضاربand the striker of الطُّلىthe necks
اذِwhen الدَّمُblood أرضْground والسماءُand the sky صعيدُdusty earth
The glory of ʿImād al-Dīn, the striker of necks,
When blood is the ground and the sky is dust.
فانْso if غِبْتُI am absent عنfrom ناديthe assembly of عُلاهُhis eminence فاننيthen indeed I
بمدحيthrough my praise مُقيمٌdwelling فيin ذَراهُhis shelter عَتيدُpresent
So if I am absent from the assembly of his eminence, then I am
Through my praise, dwelling in his shelter, ever present.
