الحمدُ للهِ الذي نصرَ العُلى

الحمدُ للهِ الذي نصرَ العُلى

بعد التَّخاذل في الوزير الفاضلِ

بعد التَّخاذل في الوزير الفاضلِ

Praise be to God, who made exalted honor triumph

Praise be to Allah who granted victory to the sublime

after it was forsaken, in the person of the virtuous minister;

After the betrayal of the virtuous minister

وأماتَ نفس الجور لما أن فشتْ

وأماتَ نفس الجور لما أن فشتْ

فينا بعاطفة الكريم العادلِ

فينا بعاطفة الكريم العادلِ

And slew the very soul of injustice when it had spread

And extinguished the soul of injustice when it spread

among us, through the kindness of the generous, just man;

Among us with the affection of the just and generous

وأضاء ليل الحظِّ بعد ظَلامهِ

وأضاء ليل الحظِّ بعد ظَلامهِ

بأغرَّ فَضْفاضِ الرداءِ حُلاحِلِ

بأغرَّ فَضْفاضِ الرداءِ حُلاحِلِ

And illuminated fortune's night after its darkness

And illuminated the night of misfortune after its darkness

with a radiant, ample-cloaked, mighty chieftain;

With the most radiant of robes, magnificent

وأعادَ نقص المجد فضْلاً كاملاً

وأعادَ نقص المجد فضْلاً كاملاً

لمَّا تحلَّى بالكمالِ الكاملِ

لمَّا تحلَّى بالكمالِ الكاملِ

And turned glory's deficiency into complete abundance

And restored the diminishing glory completely

when it adorned itself with consummate perfection:

When he was adorned with perfect perfection

حامي ذمار الجار قبل صَريخهِ

حامي ذمار الجار قبل صَريخهِ

مُولي مكارمهُ بغير مُسائل

مُولي مكارمهُ بغير مُسائل

Guardian of his neighbor's honor before his cry for help,

Protector of the neighbor’s clan before their cry

bestowing his generous gifts without being asked;

Bestowing his noble deeds without asking

جبَلُ احتمالِ أو رياحُ عزيمةٍ

جبَلُ احتمالِ أو رياحُ عزيمةٍ

في يوم أنديةٍ ويوم جَحافلِ

في يوم أنديةٍ ويوم جَحافلِ

A mountain of forbearance, or winds of resolve,

A mountain of endurance or winds of determination

on a day of assemblies and a day of mighty armies;

On a day of clubs and a day of armies

حازَ الثَّناءَ مُجَمِّعاً أشْتاتهُ

حازَ الثَّناءَ مُجَمِّعاً أشْتاتهُ

بالحزْم من أفعاله والنائلِ

بالحزْم من أفعاله والنائلِ

He won praise, gathering its scattered parts,

He earned praise, gathering its fragments

through the resolve shown in his deeds, and through his bounty.

With wisdom from his deeds and attainment
