truly good and flourishing in root and branch,

he surpasses the Mashrafi sword’s edge in cutting,

and the dark, low-hanging raincloud in bounty.

His night and morning, when he is called upon,

and gleaming lightning flashed false promises,

and a woolly she-camel resembled a hairless one,

lacking saltbush and seeking bitter salʿ shrubs,

but finding no pasture save bare earth—

he brought abundance to sate the famine-stricken,

in a Tamimi torrent, lavish gift upon gift,

not milked out by force, but flowing by nature.

So his bounty’s dew made wasteland and sandy ground sprout

with fresh shoots, clover, and goatgrass.

A minister of goodness, striving for praise,

and making reverence for God his armor,

the crown of earth’s kings, one and all—

so may he live as long as heart and hearing keep company.
